The Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) has purchased six artworks by University of Hawaiʻi system students.
Five of the artworks were from the “Still Standing” University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition. All artworks are by UHM MFA candidates.

One artwork was from the 2023 “Hawaiʻi Nei Art Exhibition” at Wailoa Center.
- Saxony Charlot, “Koa Bug Colorways” alcohol marker, pen and ink, color pencil, 2023.
Charlot is an undergraduate student in Environmental Studies at UH Hilo. The annual Hawai‘i Nei exhibition has been a collaboration among the Three Mountain Alliance watershed coalition; the Hawai‘i State Department of Land & Natural Resources Natural Area Reserves System (NARS), the Hawaiʻi Island Art Alliance (HIAA); and Hawaiʻi State Parks Wailoa Center.
These artworks were nominated by SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committees that visited the exhibits, and were approved for purchase by the SFCA Board of Commissioners on May 15, 2024.
These works will be eligible for placement in hundreds of state government sites across Hawaiʻi, including libraries, schools, and Capitol Modern (the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum) through the SFCA Art in Public Places Program.
