Several bills were introduced this session relating to the Works of Art Special Fund. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) leadership team and board of commissioners is working with the Legislative committee chairs, drafting positions and relevant testimony.

Excludes appropriations to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands for the development of residential buildings from the general requirement that 1% of capital improvement appropriations for state buildings be transferred to the works of art special fund. HB760 / SB928 RELATING TO THE STATE FOUNDATION ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS.
Allows the works of art special fund to be used for performing arts, under certain conditions. Includes posting of a recording of performing art as a form of public display. Defines performing arts. SB656 RELATING TO THE WORKS OF ART SPECIAL FUND.
Specifies that 0.5 per cent, rather than one per cent, of state fund appropriations for capital improvements shall be transferred into the works of art special fund. Limits the 0.5 per cent amount to appropriations designated for the construction of new state buildings, properties, or facilities. SB1306 RELATING TO THE WORKS OF ART SPECIAL FUND.
Allows the works of art special fund to be used to recognize and support local artists, including student artists and arts education programs in K-12 schools; and as administrative support for programs that support works of art and artists, including when state funds are required to obtain federal funding.
