2023 Young Artists of Hawaii winners announced

April 27, 2023

Artworks have been selected for the 2023 Young Artists of Hawaiʻi exhibit by a panel of judges: Rep. Sonny Ganaden, Rosina Potter, and Rachael Kim. The addition of a Youth Ambassador judge is new this year – SFCA Art in Public Places Project Manager Kamakani Konia says “Rachael is a Junior at Mid-Pacific Institute and one of the most decorated artists from this year’s Hawai‘i Regional Scholastic Art Awards. One of the goals for Young Artists this year was to better bridge the gap between our student exhibition programming and perpetuate the theme of leadership within our schools by having big kids guide little kids.”

About Young Artists of Hawaiʻi

Young Artists of Hawaiʻi is an annual student art competition and exhibition. Presented by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, and Gravitas Pasifika, this program recognizes creative excellence among Hawaiʻi’s public and private school students, Kindergarten through seventh grade. A panel of judges select 96 works for the exhibition, which is presented at the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum. Replicas of the artworks are also displayed at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center for one year, in the Pa Kamaliʻi Courtyard on the third floor.

The student artworks will be on display at the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum May 20 – July 8, 2023. The opening of the exhibit is the same day as the May Super Saturday family event.
