“I created the shimmering effect by applying transparent layers of paint, which allowed underlying color layers to peek out between some of the color patterns in the background. I tried to express the feeling of serenity at Foster Garden.” – Lily Hasegawa. “Foster Garden” watercolor on paper painting, 1995. Art in Public Places Collection of the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Currently installed at the State Attorney General’s office in downtown Honolulu.

Foster Botanical Garden is a refreshing oasis in busy downtown Honolulu! Several memorials and sculptures are in the garden as well. Learn more about Foster and other Honolulu Botanical Gardens on the City and County of Honolulu website: Honolulu.gov/Parks/HBG.
