Individual Artist Fellowship: Selected Works by IAF Recipients 1995-2008
September 3, 2010 – July 16, 2011
This captivating exhibition showcased the work of recipients of the prestigious Individual Artist Fellowship that were awarded by the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts every two years. The Individual Artist Fellowship recognized accomplishments in the visual and performing arts. The first fellowship was presented in 1995 and since then, 53 artists have received this honor that is determined through peer review. Fellows demonstrate significant contributions to their discipline and are distinguished for their creativity and innovation in their field as well as their professional development and growth.
As many of the visual artists have work represented in the HSFCA’s Art in Public Places Collection, one work was chosen from the collection and one or two pieces were selected through studio visits. The show allowed artists to display works, most created post-fellowship, alongside pieces produced earlier in their career, illustrating how the award helped to develop their body of work.
