The Friends of the Hawai’i State Art Museum is seeking qualified applicants to manage and operate the cafe space at the newly rebranded Capitol Modern. The space, which is located on the first floor of the No. 1 Capitol District Building, has been without a vendor since the cafe closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

“Having a cafe is an essential part of ensuring Capitol Modern is a welcoming and vibrant space for residents and visitors,” said Karen Ewald, executive director of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA).

How to Apply

A Request for Proposals for a contractor to run the Capitol Modern Cafe is underway. The ideal contractor must have a focus on food sustainability, culinary arts, and cultural practices. Potential contractors are expected to manage and staff a high-quality food service as well as provide catering services for museum and private events. Interested parties are asked to submit a letter of interest with a resume to:

Hawaiʻi State Art Museum Cafe
No. 1 Capitol District Building 250 South Hotel Street
Honolulu, Hawaii 96813

Submissions must be received no later than December 17, 2023 by 2:00 p.m.
