The Friends of the Hawai’i State Art Museum is seeking qualified applicants to manage and operate the cafe space at the newly rebranded Capitol Modern. The space, which is located on the first floor of the No. 1 Capitol District Building, has been without a vendor since the cafe closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
“Having a cafe is an essential part of ensuring Capitol Modern is a welcoming and vibrant space for residents and visitors,” said Karen Ewald, executive director of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA).

A Request for Proposals for a contractor to run the Capitol Modern Cafe is underway. The ideal contractor must have a focus on food sustainability, culinary arts, and cultural practices.
