Exhibit: “Bamboo to Brass: Sonic Journeys Across the Philippines”

A display of Indigenous Filipino musical instruments, curated by House of Gongs, will be in the ground floor glass case (across from the gift shop) during the month of October. The mini-exhibit is a part of “FiliRooted: Celebrating Filipino-American History Month in Hawaiʻi – From Plantation to Diaspora” month-long series of events at Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum in October 2025. All events are free and open to the public. All ages welcome.

  • October 4, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. “808 x 63: Stories Between Islands” opening gathering with fashion show and artist panel.
  • October 18, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. “Pamana Kids Workshop” exploring Filipino heritage through storytelling, language, songs, and games.
  • October 25, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. “Sakada to Cypher: Island Gongster Edition” festival finale with live music, dance, and a Filipino-American marketplace with local vendors, artisans, and food.
