(Honolulu, HI) – In a stunning display of Native Hawaiian artistry, the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, Capitol Modern, this evening launched Ke Ao Lama, Enlightened World – a collection of exhibits featuring expressions of Native Hawaiian thought and creativity.  The First Friday event began with opening protocol by Ke Kumu Hawaiʻi and Hula Kiʻi performances by the Hula Preservation Society and Nā Hanona Kūlike ‘O Pi‘ilani. Hundreds gathered for the opening ceremony including Governor Josh Green and First Lady Jaime Kanani Green.

The event honored the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC), which kicked off yesterday and runs through June 16, 2024. Capitol Modern is featuring several unique programs and exhibits related to the FestPAC, including one that highlights the Festival’s history. 

All activities at Capitol Modern tie into the theme, “Ke Ao Lama (Enlightened World),” and aim to showcase the proliferation of Pacific peoples’ ingenuity, from traditional practice to contemporary expression, highlighting the evolution of enlightened native thought and creativity.
