The SFCA acquires artwork from across the state of Hawaiʻi for the Art in Public Places Collection.

General Information

Most purchases for the Art in Public Places Collection are artworks nominated by committees that visit curated and/or juried exhibits in the state of Hawaiʻi. Learn more about how to invite a committee to a visit. Exhibits approved for a committee visit are listed below, and also published in the SFCA email newsletter.

Governor's Portrait

The Art in Public Places Program of the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) has posted a Request for Qualifications on Call For Entry (CaFE) for the State of Hawaiʻi Governor’s Portrait. Through this call the SFCA intends to establish a qualified pool of professional artists for consideration.

  • Applications will only be accepted online through CallForEntry.org.
  • This Request for Qualifications is open to Hawaiʻi artists.
  • Application to include a resume, artist’s statement, and seven (7) images of completed, painted portraits.
  • The Governor’s portrait is a 48” high, 36” wide portrait in oil or acrylic medium on linen canvas.
  • Application deadline Friday July 23, 2021.

Art in Public Places Program Request for Qualifications

The Art in Public Places Program of the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) has posted a Request for Qualifications on Call For Entry (CaFE) for the SFCA Art in Public Places Program. The program is seeking qualifications from individual artists for artwork to be commissioned for various locations statewide. Sites for art may include opportunities for three dimensional freestanding sculpture, two dimensional images translated into durable materials, and large painted murals. Specific locations have not been announced.

Through this call the SFCA intends to establish a qualified pool of professional artists for consideration.

  • Applications will only be accepted online through CallForEntry.org.

  • This Request for Qualifications is open internationally, with special consideration given to Hawaiʻi artists.

  • Application to include a resume, artist’s statement, and seven (7) images of completed work.

  • Application deadline Friday August 6, 2021.

SFCA calls for artists are posted on Call For Entry (CaFE), www.CallForEntry.org. Artists will need to be registered on CaFE to be able to log in and respond to a call for artists. It’s free to register and set up an account with a work portfolio and resume.
