This arts and culture calendar features SFCA grantees, partners, and Hawaiʻi state and local government programs and events. Questions regarding a particular program or event should be directed to the organization listed with the opportunity. Inclusion here should not be interpreted as an endorsement.

Festivals and Family Events

  • Honouliuli National Historic Site and Judiciary History Center August events: Korean Prisoners of War. Speaker series, movie screening, tour, and exhibit: 10th Anniversary Celebration – Honouliuli National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service).
  • Honolulu Museum of Art HoMA Nights, every Friday until 9:00 p.m. Live music and experiences, included with admission. For more information, please visit the Honolulu Museum of Art website: HonoluluMuseum.org/events.

  • Hawaiʻi Walls “Local” and “The Earth Laughs in Flowers” at Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, September 17 – 20 and September 24, 2025. Accompanying artist talk with Woes on Thursday September 18, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Capitol Modern exhibits: CapitolModern.org/events.
  • “Technique and Texture” mini-exhibit at Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, through Saturday September 27, 2025.   • “Art Kauaʻi 2025” exhibit by the Kauaʻi Society of Artists at the KSA Gallery at Kukui Grove Center, Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi. September 12 – October 24, 2025. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.   • “Mālama Wao Akua” art exhibition celebrating the native species of Maui Nui, September 12 – November 7, 2025 at the Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center, Makawao (Maui). An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.   • “Textiles of Moku O Keawe” invitational exhibition showcasing historic and traditional items alongside recent creations, honoring the many textile traditions of the islands. Kahilu Exhibits at Kahilu Theatre, Kamuela (Hawaiʻi Island), September 25 – November 2, 2025. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.   • “Climate Action Hawaiʻi” at Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, October 3 – 30, 2025. A partnership of the Hawaiʻi State Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (CCMAC), University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Sea Grant College Program, and Capitol Modern, this exhibit is the result of an Artist Climate Action Residency program engaging local artists in the co-development of Hawaiʻi’s Climate Action Pathways (CAP). An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.
  • “Hawaiʻi Craftsmen Annual Statewide Exhibition 2025” at the Downtown Art Center (Honolulu, Oʻahu), October 3 – November 1, 2025. Held annually since 1967, features traditional and contemporary craft from across the state of Hawaiʻi. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.   • “I Mana Ka Moʻomoʻo” exhibition featuring kapa work by artists across the Pae ʻĀina at Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa (Hawaiʻi Island). October 25 – December 13, 2025. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.   • “Lucky Live Hawaiʻi 2025 Invitational” art exhibit at Viewpoints Gallery Maui, featuring artists from across Hawaiʻi. Through September 7, 2025.   • “Many Hands, Many Journeys: A Cross-Pacific Artistic Dialogue” exhibit at Kahilu Theatre (Hawaiʻi Island) August 8 – September 14, 2025.   • “Synergistic Tendencies: Explorations in Collaborative Ceramics” exhibition at Donkey Mill Art Center (Hawaiʻi Island), August 23 – October 11, 2025.   • “Kuleana” exhibit at Gallery ʻIolani, Windward Community College. Featuring works by University of Hawaiʻi alumni or former or current faculty or staff. August 29 – December 12, 2025. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee has visited this exhibit and nominated works for the SFCA Art in Public Places Collection.   • “Interisland (New Paintings from New York and Hawaiʻi)” exhibition of 42 painters based in New York City and in Hawaiʻi at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, The Art Gallery, August 31 – December 7, 2025.   • “My Monumental Summer: Live, Love, Paint” exhibition at Leeward Community College, Hōʻikeakea Gallery. Five artists create a monumental painting from start to finish.   • “From River to Richards” documentary photography exhibit at Downtown Art Center (Honolulu) November 6 – 29, 2025.   • “17th Annual Hawaiʻi Nei Art Exhibition” at Wailoa Center (Hilo, Hawaiʻi Island)November 7 – December 11, 2025. Featuring artworks by both professional and amateur artists of all ages, highlighting native plants, animals, and habitats of Hawaiʻi Island. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners.   • “Ocean of Peace” at Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC), Schaefer International Gallery, December 6, 2025 – January 31, 2026. Contemporary artists of Micronesian heritage based in Hawaiʻi. Public Policy

  • Climate Future Forum youth-led climate policy summit at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol, November 1, 2025. For youth (ages 14-26), educators, legislators and community leaders to co-create real climate policy priorities for our state.
