About the “Under the Blue” art installation
This community art installation in the first phase of an immersive art experience that explores the various zones of the ocean. Inspired by phytoplankton, Native Hawaiian artists Solomon Enos encourages people of all ages to make dots and dashes on the wall, which will turn into the backdrop of an immersive ocean performance venue for young people with developmental disabilities and disorders.
This project is a partnership of the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, the Friends of the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth.
About the Under the Blue experience with Honolulu Theatre for Youth
The Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) will bring the art installation to life in May! Dive deep down to the bottom of the ocean with us in this interactive, multisensory performance specifically designed for young people with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. In this space, audience members may make noise and move around when they feel they need to. We will discover who dwells beneath the surface of the sea and what adventures abound far below the waves! This piece is inspired by the works of Solomon Enos, Carol Bennet and Tadashi Sato.
The Under the Blue Experience at HISAM is free, and space is very limited. Attendees must register in advance. Maximum Attendance: 16 (8 youth accompanied by one familiar adult*)
*If additional family members wish to attend they may do so on a space available basis and are welcome to enjoy other museum activities and the AR experience in sculpture garden.
